Conifère are carrying on the small but relentlessly masterful tradition of raw black metal in Québec first carved out at the turn of the century by the likes of Akitsa and Arianrhod. The legacy continues, and along with it, the history and cultural identity of Québec in raw black metal persists. It’s dark, it’s real, it’s jagged like a rusty buzzsaw blade, yet brooding and melodic and thoughtful. There are stark few releases from this niche most years, and fewer still of this caliber. Sam
Just wow. This project is absolutely astonishing, and beautifully presented. I feel a little late to the game with this one, and I really hope they release more soon. Fantastic demo and needs to be purchased. quanticprophet
The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
